Kenny Meez is back painting. His first day on the job site he rolled out some tags, a major no-no on our job site. To be fair he didnt get the memo. No problem, we stock plenty of chestnut brown, Anti’s preferred shade to throw on expression. Buff yourself, tagger! Great to have MEEZ back painting, yes, he’s still good at it.

CO-SIGN on this DESIGN

August 26th, 2009 by Steve Powers

LL-CO-signCo-Sign is inspired by the Thos. Cusack Co. logo in the top left corner. It’s 2 bricks high and really well done, with the o tucked in the C in the same way we painted our Co. All I could find on Thos. Cusack was that he was a sign painter and politician in Chicago that died in 1928. There was a painted sign above the signature but its completely faded. The heavy lead white pigment in the logo endures. The owner of the building said there was an ad for a big and tall store that was painted in the 50’s.  The owner keeps an immaculate house, and has a garden on the side, that we had to work around. he was a little bummed that we only painted letters, so we added the P.A.G.N. style roses. we suggested they should be the hot peppers that were in his garden, but he wanted roses. No problem, we’re here to help, mas-a-menos.

THE AJ 880

August 25th, 2009 by Steve Powers

LL-Miss-you-night-shotThe AJ 880 80′ articulated boom lift.  The one to be on with big tings agwaan. 800 dollars a day, so you better get the power sprayer to buff that spot in a hurry. This shot is at the end of  two days work, one cut short by hurricane bill. Bill left his mark with the streaks of white buff paint dripping down the wall. Thats mad graff, huh?

CLYDE

August 17th, 2009 by Steve Powers

LL-NICE-DREAM3-1Nice Dream, inspired by CLYDE IWS, who painted his name in this exact location almost 30 years ago. I borrowed his color scheme and his dripping letter style and brought it into my world of  the gothic/gotham letter  sign style. This was an early version, we changed  ”about you” to “about us”. Clyde reported in, sounding like the 1980 came to visit holding a case of quarter waters

PREPAY IS ON

August 17th, 2009 by Steve Powers

LL-Prepay-is-onJames, working for us with a torn achillies tendon (administrative, design consultation, community relations, etc), was suffering from lack of minutes and all the deficits that grow out of that condition. We sent a co-worker up to the ave to get him back online and the situation inspired this piece. The result is real talk in real time, drawing inspiration from the ground around us and putting it up on top for all to see.  We got a complaint from the owner of the building who keeps a beautifully maintained property (look at her roof, CRISP), so I went to hear her out and explain the wall and the larger goals of the project. She pulled out a file of images she felt the youth needed to see,  one an excellent photoshop montage of The President  with the white house behind him and a young black male in the foreground, thuged-out in a tank top and  sagging jeans. The tagline admonished “THIS HOUSE HAS A DRESS CODE-PULL YOUR PANTS UP”. She said it was what these kids out here needed to hear. It was a first for me that a client wanted a harder image than the one I put on the table. Once she understood what we are trying to do, she got on board with us.  I’m down for her vision though, might have to hook that up somewhere. Jeffrey, whats up with the wall on houston? lets get Fiddy to model for me? ahh yeahh.
